Madrigal Concert

The choir program is putting on their annual Madrigal concert today and tomorrow in the cafeteria. Today is the second show, as they performed last night as well. The first show was originally planned for last Saturday but was rescheduled to Thursday due to inclement weather. All three nights of the event were completely sold out.

The show is like a Medieval-themed musical that includes singing and a scripted dialogue while the audience eats a meal served by the choir.

“It’s a fun event that all of choir is a part of,” senior choir member Sarah Dixon said. “It’s really a group effort.”

Some of the songs are performed by the varsity choir, some by the junior varsity and some by the freshman choir. At the end of the night, the whole choir comes together to sing a song called “Ave Maria,” the part of the show that Dixon said she enjoys most.

“My favorite part is singing the last song with everyone,” Dixon said. “It sounds so great. People in the audience even cry.”

Dixon has the role of a House Captain, responsible for a section of the choir and the cafeteria, serving the audience and making sure all the performers do their job as planned.

“My job is really just to make sure everything is running smoothly,” Dixon said.

Senior Madison Damore became a part of the varsity choir two years ago and said her favorite part of the performance is experiencing it with friends.

“I’m looking forward to performing it this year because it’s my last year,” Damore said. “I’ve loved doing it with all my friends.”

The choir does multiple rehearsals in preparation for the show, including late nights in the cafeteria before they do it in front of family and friends.

“It’s stressful but the end product is great,” Dixon said.
