Hangman’s House of Horrors

As the days creep closer to the end of October, students are all searching for that rush of adrenaline that comes from a bone-chilling scare, and one of the best ways to get the blood pumping is a haunted house. The Marquee has reviewed a few of the haunted houses in the area that will be sure to get students’ hearts racing.

Cutting Edge:

Scare Factor: 9/10

Known around the halls as one of the scariest in the area, this haunted house certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted. Staged in a rumored 100-year-old abandoned meat-packing warehouse, Cutting Edge incorporates different fears such as clowns, vampires, chainsaws and more into different themed rooms. They currently hold the Guinness World Record for the largest haunted house in the world, so they are sure to set nerves on edge throughout the 50 minute long walkthrough. And fear not, because despite multiple rumors, Cutting Edge actors can not touch you. However, before leaving the house, make sure to wear clothes that are able to get wet because before exiting, guests are forced to walk through massive amounts of bubbles. Admission is $30, and it is located on Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth.

Parker House:

Scare Factor: 7/10

If a long drive seems daunting then the Parker House is a suitable alternative. Located on West University Drive in Denton, this attraction offers a spooky time for only a 20 minute drive. The Parker house tells the backstory of Mary Parker, a mortician gone crazy that sold the body parts of the dead. Years after she was taken to the sanitarium, the house was supposedly bought and restored to show what happened under its roof. The walkthrough is split up into two main parts, the actual Parker House and the Sanitarium that Mary Parker was taken to. It offers up plenty of frights in its relatively short walkthrough time. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes before hopping in the car, because the Parker House contains a large amount of walking. Admission is $23, and all proceeds go to The Heroes of Denton County, a local charity.

Hangman’s House of Horrors:

Scare Factor: 8/10

Located in downtown Fort Worth, the drive to Hangman’s is lengthy. The atmosphere and the scares, however, make up for it. It contains three attractions – the main haunted house, an Alice in Wonderland themed house and a zombie themed house. The main house is by far the scariest, incorporating a theme of twisted fairy tales that will make those previously harmless Disney movies now seem terrifying. The walkthrough takes about 30 minutes and multiple jumps and screams will be sure to occur. Hangman is featured on the Travel channel’s “America’s Scariest Halloween Attractions,” and this will be its final season. After deciding to go, make sure to plan to  arrive early because ticket lines can be long. Admission prices are $25 and net proceeds go to one of five different local charities.
