The Marquee: Why did you join ultimate frisbee?

Zach Egge: I joined because my sister played and I saw that people did encouraging things and I wanted to try. I fell in love with it. Seeing people diving and jumping over people, that was always super cool for me.

TM: What is your favorite aspect of the sport?

ZE: Using my IQ against [my opponent] even though they could be faster than me. Just being smarter, that’s my favorite thing.

TM: What are your practices and matches like?

ZE: We’ll start off throwing, then we’ll do some drills and finish with a scrimmage. We play against college and high school teams. We just recently played in a round robin tournament, so we played three other high school teams, and before that we played against six different college teams. We have a tournament once a month and practices are every Tuesday and Thursday after school.

TM: Have you faced any difficulty after joining the club?

ZE: We just lost our coach like two years ago, Doyle. He moved schools and we lost a lot of seniors last year.

TM: What do you want other people to know about ultimate frisbee?

ZE: It takes a lot more athletic ability than people think. It’s not as easy as everybody says it is or thinks it is. You have to actually try you can’t just be good at your first time.

TM: What’s a fun fact about yourself?

ZE: I listen to a lot of music. I [am always] listening to music. I always have music going. A lot of indie and alternative.
