In its first trip to the State Water Polo Tournament, the girls’ team defeated Clute Brazoswood, 14-13, to win the first state title in the sport for Marcus.
Marcus beat the past two state champions at the state tournament, including Kingwood Foster in the semifinals 12-10, en route to the championship.
Senior Courtney Smith earned the Most Valuable Player award for the State Tournament. All-Tournament Team honors were given to Smith as well as sophomores Arini Rawat and Sarah Marlin.
Prior to the state title match, Marcus Head Coach Brandon Dion was honored as the NFHS Coach of the Year for Boys Water Polo.
