Thanks to a dominant second-half performance by the defense and a standout night from junior quarterback Colton Nussmeier, the Marauders surged passed district rival Denton Braswell, 42-21, at Marauder Stadium Friday night Oct. 10, 2025.
With the win, Marcus improves to 3-2 on the season and 1-2 in District 5-6A play.
The Marauders wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first quarter. An interception by senior safety Easton Mitchell set up Nussmeier’s first touchdown pass of the night — a 12-yard strike to senior wide receiver Luke Susko. Junior Santiago Diaz followed with a 29-yard field goal to give Marcus an early 10–0 lead.
Braswell bounced back with explosive plays, a 94-yard touchdown run from Zahir Trufant and an 86-yard touchdown pass to take a 21–14 lead late in the second quarter.
However, Nussmeier and the offense answered just before halftime when he found Susko again, this time from two yards out. Nussmeier then connected with sophomore tight end Berrington Kogler on the two-point conversion to tie the game 21–21 heading into the locker room.
From there, it was all Marcus.
The Marauder defense completely shut down the Bengals in the second half, allowing no first downs and an astounding -30 yards of offense. Meanwhile, the offense piled on with touchdown runs by senior running backs Carter Francis and Kade McKnight, and Nussmeier capped his night with a third touchdown pass, a 34-yarder to senior wide receiver Peyton Belton.
Susko led the receiving corps with seven catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Nussmeier was 18-34 for 265 yards passing.
Marcus continues district play with a road game at Denton Guyer on Thursday, Oct. 16.
