The Marauders huddled together after their loss to get pumped up for their next game.

Thursday night the Marcus Marauders were defeated 28-14 on the road against the James Bowie Volunteers.

Marcus started their 1st drive with a fumble, which the Volunteers went on scored, going up 7-0 with 10:13 in the 1st quarter. The Marauders came back and went on a 12 play drive, capping it off with a two yard handoff touchdown to #22 Tyson Edwards. Both teams punted the ball two drives each to finish the 1st quarter and kick off the 2nd.

With 7:40 to go in the 2nd, Bowie converted a big 4th down play, which resulted in  a long catch and run to the end zone, making the score 14-7 at the end of the 1st half.

Bowie started with the ball in the 2nd half. With the Volunteers at the 13 with a third down on their hands, the quarterback fumbled. The Marauder defense was able to recover it at the 16. However, the Marauders’ offense would go back to back drives. With 4:34 to go in the third, the Volunteers scored, putting them up 21-7 at the end of the quarter.

The team started the 4th by making the Volunteers punt on a 4th down. With 8:34 left in the game, Edwards got his second touchdown of the night, making the score 21-14.

The Volunteers drove down the field and with just 2:30 remaining, the Marauders forced a fourth down on their own one yard line and Bowie went for a touchdown. They scored with 2:25 left. As the Marauders tried to come back they ended up not converting the 4th down, ending the game trailing Arlington Bowie 28-14.

The Marauders’ next game will be against the McKinney Boyd Broncos on Sept. 6 in the Broncos Stadium at 7 p.m. Until then, the team will be watching videos from Thursday’s game in preparation.

“The key is experience and when we watch the video, that will tell us what we need to work on,” head coach Kevin Atkinson said.
